The Fourth of July – A Day of Celebration

We hope all of you are celebrating Independence Day enjoying the freedoms of living in the United States of America. It’s a day to pause and give thanks for the brave men and women that dreamed of political freedom. As Christians, we also celebrate our freedom from sin and death because of the sacrifice that Jesus made so that we might come to know the fullness of a loving, righteous God. Our prayer is that each person on this globe would experience not only freedom from political oppression, but all would know the spiritual freedom we have in God through Jesus Christ.

Visit to Hopkinsville Honors Classroom Partner Inspiration

It’s a “fur piece” from Red Bird Christian School to Eddyville, Kentucky, but Principal Jennifer Wilder and Chasley Collett, K-1 Teacher, made the trek last weekend to Saratoga United Methodist Church at the request of Rev. Steve McVay. It was the least that Jennifer and Chasley could do because Rev. McVay has made many trips over the past 13 years bringing supplies and parishoners to RBCS.

He’s not a flashy person, but his humble, loving approach made an impression on everyone he met here at Red Bird over the years. Steve made it a point to get someone to come with him to see the students and the school so that they could understand its importance in shaping young lives. The commitment of his churches to stay in communication with the Kindergarten teachers and provide needed resources for the Kindergarten class year after year was a huge inspiration to the development of Classroom Partners at RBCS.

Unity and Purpose in Community Gardens

The roots of the Community Garden at Red Bird Mission stretch back to around 2010, born from a simple yet profound dream: to bring people together in unity and purpose. In an area as isolated and economically challenged as ours, the garden was envisioned as a way to combat not just hunger but isolation itself. It offered families the opportunity to grow their own food—to know the pride of feeding their children with meals cultivated by their own hands. But more than that, it became a lifeline, a way to connect with neighbors, to see each other not just as individuals, but as part of something bigger.

Now, in 2025, the Red Bird Mission Community Garden thrives in ways its founders might have only dreamed. Each plot is an expression of the community members who tend them — gardens full of colorful imagination and hard work. This year, for the first time, the garden has truly blossomed, showing the dedication and talents of everyone involved.

One of the most beautiful aspects of the Red Bird Mission Community Garden is how it brings together people from all skill levels. Some of our community gardeners have been tending to plants for years—local legends in their own right, with the kind of wisdom and expertise that could nourish an entire mountainside.

On the other hand, the garden is also a welcoming space for beginners. Some plots are a little wilder, with plants finding their own paths as new gardeners learn the rhythm of the soil and the sun. There’s something uniquely inspiring about their courage—the way they show up, willing to learn, trying new things, and embracing both the triumphs and the mistakes along the way.

What makes our garden truly special is how these groups come together. It’s a relationship of mutual giving; everyone grows together, just like the plants do. What unites everyone, regardless of skill level, is the shared purpose of the garden. It’s not about perfection—it’s about persistence, connection, and the hope that comes with planting a seed.

Ultimately, the Red Bird Mission Community garden isn’t just a place to grow food—it’s a testament to what happens when we share, learn, and grow together.  Season by season, both plants and people flourish, leaving a lasting mark not just on the soil, but on the hearts of everyone who steps into this space.

Alumni Homecoming – Save the Date

Plans for the 2025 Homecoming for the Red Bird School Alumni Association (RBSAA) are already taking shape for October 10-12 at Red Bird Christian School on the Queendale Campus. Alumni and friends of Red Bird School should make plans to attend, especially alumni of the classes of 1965, 1975, 1985, 1995, 2000, 2005 and 2015 that are being honored this year.

An addition to this year’s gathering will be a local craft fair on Saturday during the morning hours during registration, reconnecting and reminiscing. The featured speakers after lunch, Jon (‘08) and Samantha (’09) North, will bring a message that will inspire, encourage and uplift all generations gathered. RBSAA annual awards to Teacher of the Year, Alumni of the Year, the Bischoff Award and the Living Legend will bring special honor to those that have labored to make Red Bird School an institution of excellence.

The gathering will shift outdoors (weather permitting) to the baseball field for a time to honor Daugh Sizemore, long-time teacher and coach. Former players and colleagues will express appreciation for Mr. Sizemore’s leadership and service as a teacher, coach and dorm parent at Red Bird School. The official presentation of the electronic baseball scoreboard for the Daugh Sizemore Field will be the climax of honors for Mr. Sizemore with an alumni game capping off the day.

The weekend is expected to kick off on Friday, October 10th with a “young alumni” event, and will close with a special preacher at the Beverly Church on Sunday, the 12th. More details on both of these events will come later through social media posts and mailings.
