Cardinals Jump into Service

Students at Red Bird Christian School had a blast during Cardinal Service Day today! This annual event is all about giving back to the school, the community and growing as individuals. After the students sent off the Cardinal Singers for their out-of-state weekend tour with prayers and hugs, they jumped into a variety of projects across every section of the school.

Inside Red Bird Christian School, students and staff collaborated together to clean and organize classrooms, the chapel, the school office and the gymnasium. The rain didn't stop students and staff from working diligently outdoors! They were busy pressure washing the stairwell, digging ditches, and constructing a walkway from the parking lot to beneath the school, while other students contributed by working on the playground by the softball field. The 6th graders removed weeds from the playground and its surrounding areas, while the 4th and 5th graders distributed cleaning wipes and other items to those in need.

Beneath the school where the stunning cardinal mural resides, Araya Salyers (Senior) and Jarron Smith (Senior) are bringing the artwork to life with fresh paint and creativity by repainting the mural. Another team of students helped unload a food donation across the river at Community Outreach that was delivered by the All Things New Class from Christ Church in Louisville, Kentucky today.

With tons of teamwork, everyone came together to make a real difference at Red Bird Christian School. It was a great way to build a sense of responsibility and compassion. Not only did they help improve their surroundings, but they also got to explore the cool world of service and gain some awesome life experiences along the way!

Cultures Displayed from Around the World

On Tuesday, April 22nd, Red Bird Christian School gave new meaning to the phrase "around the world" with an impressive twist! The Cultural Diversity Fair was an exciting global experience as the school's cafeteria turned into a lively center of culture, cuisine, and exploration. This event offered elementary and middle school students an exciting adventure while staying within the comfort of their school!

As students walked in, they were welcomed by unique exhibits and the inviting scent of treats and dishes from around the globe. High school students proudly displayed different countries, highlighting their creativity. Each table captured the unique vibe of the nation it represented. Some had musical instruments and traditional games, while others showed off traditional clothing and neat artifacts.

The fair wasn't just a treat for the eyes; it was a feast for the taste buds, too. High school students handed out samples of traditional foods from their assigned countries.

"Learning about dragons was my favorite part,"

says an elementary student as he recalls his trip to the United Kingdom with classmates.

The Thompson Scholars Program played a key role in making the Cultural Diversity Fair happen making sure all students have access to cultural education. Also, a big shout out to Natasha Howard (High School Literature and History Teacher) and Eugena North (Librarian) for their passion and support in making this trip around the world a success!

As our world becomes increasingly interconnected, understanding and appreciating various cultures will remain important. This fair was a great way to build a community that embraces diversity and encourages curiosity. Exploring the world from our cafeteria is just the beginning—many more adventures await us.

“We can get that in a black for you.”

Those words could be heard Tuesday afternoon in the hall outside of the Community Computer Lab of the Schaeffer Building at Red Bird Mission as Becky and Joseph from Plaza Drug in London were helping to get the best shoe ordered. Kentucky Homeplace partnered with Plaza Drug of London and Red Bird Community Outreach to hold another Diabetic Shoe Clinic to fit folks for a pair of shoes that will provide comfort and healthy support.

Kim of Kentucky Homeplace said that eight people had already been served in the first hour of the shoe fitting. The good turnout this week was attributed to the weather getting better and most folks meeting 2025 deductibles on health insurance. Kim also said that the social media publicity from Red Bird going out prior to the day provides people the opportunity to get the required forms completed by their health care provider.

Students Display Musical Abilities

This year's Spring Music Concert drew a crowd Thursday night that filled the Red Bird Christian School Gymnasium. Families, friends, and community members came together to celebrate the incredible talent of students in grades 5 through 12. With the energizing guidance of instructors Nate Smallwood and Mark Smallwood, the evening was a heartfelt reminder of the power of music and the dedication of young performers.

The concert began with an impressive performance by the 5th and 6th Grade Band, featuring classic melodies. Next, the High School and Middle School Choir impressed everyone with their incredible songs, as their harmonious voices infused the gym with warmth.

The concert reached its peak with the thrilling performance by the High School and Middle School Band. They were phenomenal, delivering an energy-filled set that included the much-loved classic “Don't Stop Believin'” by Journey. As the familiar opening chords rang out, the audience couldn't resist singing along.

Instructors Nate Smallwood and Mark Smallwood deserve recognition for their guidance and support, helping instill a love of music in their students. As the curtain fell on the concert, it was clear that the passion ignited in these young hearts would continue to thrive, leading to even greater achievements in the future.
